TEACHERS: Getting Started with Abstinence Education
We believe that programs like the ones we offer at Project Pledge can make a positive impact on teens. Our abstinence curriculum can bridge the gaps between teachers and students sometimes found within the school system that preclude teachers from having the frank discussion of sex with teens.

We believe that one way to approach the subject of abstinence is to start with a description of healthy relationships. At Project Pledge, we encourage teens to "connect with respect. " This means respecting themselves and others.

Teenagers who feel confident in their own decision-making are less inclined to be pressured into doing something they do not want to do. So by focusing on self-respect and self-esteem, Project Pledge can help teenagers get through the biological processes of adolescent change and the ensuing self-doubt. By building them up, this program can honestly address the pressures of growing up and show students that there are other options available to them.

We know you're busy running your classroom curriculum. Let us help you inform your students about avoiding risky behavior, building self-respect and choosing healthy relationships. For information about in-class presentations, contact DeeAnn Arroyo at 520.326.2528, extension 119. By the way, our curriculum meets Arizona State Standards for learning.
